Meyhem Lauren ft. Roc Marciano, "Street Religion"

When he’s not playing co-pilot on Action Bronson’s F*ck That’s Delicious, Queens MC Meyhem Lauren gets busy cooking up some marvelous s*** of his own. One could ponder how many of the show’s viewers who bemoan the state of hip-hop may not realize there’s a true blue spitter right in front of them in Lauren. Hopefully they don’t miss out on Gems From The Equinox, the new collaboration album between Lauren and DJ Muggs.

The project is due on October 27th via Soul Assassins/Kobalt Music Recordings. Lauren and Muggs dropped the first single from the project, the soulful “Street Religion” featuring fellow lyricist Roc Marciano. The two flow over a soulful vocal sample that evokes memories of Wu Tang’s heyday — especially with Marciano’s typically vivid imagery and crimelord ideations.

The album’s theme is derived from the equinox, a day where day and night are the same length. The project is set to “chronicle the urban decay and wild experiences only to be found in the New York underworld from the perspective of an intelligent hoodlum,” Meyhem Lauren. The album comes out close to the winter, ripe to be the soundtrack for cold nights (we think) in Gotham.
