Premiere: Scotdrakula, “Break Me Up”

It's an undeniable pleasure premiering talented bands coming out of Melbourne, which these days doesn't seem hard to do. Local lo-fi garage trio Scotdrakula just released a new single, "Break Me Up," with an ominous video counterpart. The video shows us the backs of two punks walking around the night-drenched city, where all we can really make out are animal masks hugging the backs of their heads, and one of them wielding a pick-axe. Flash cuts to hands being wrapped in black tape and to a man throwing agitated practice swings at the wall suggest a possible fight at the end of the night. The slow and heavy bass sound, powerful grungy guitar, Thee Oh Sees-esque vocals, and repeating sinister lyrics leave an unsettling impression that's hard to shake off.
