Sister Crayon & Sea of Bees, “Going Back To Cali” (Biggie cover)

Sister Crayon and Sea of Bees are cray cray for this one. The leading ladies of Sacramento are crewing up for a tour stint around the Golden State in June. Sister Crayon has been on tour for the better part of three and a half months with Maps & Atlases, while Jules of Sea of Bees is busy promoting her Orangefarben record out on Team Love. To commemorate their returns home, the groups covered the fresh-off-the-jet-just-touched-down-on-the-west-side Notorious B.I.G. song "Going Back To Cali" off his Life Or Death LP.

The cover is stripped of it's G-funk inflections and refashioned with a downtempo backing beat fit for Terra Lopez of Sister Crayon and Jules Baezinger of Sea of Bees to trade off Biggie verses. This should be awkward, or not work, but it does, it truly does. Big ups to Jules strictly shouting out 916 and 530 area codes. With the bands touring together around Cali, hopefully there's incentive to sneak the Biggie cover into one of their sets.
