The Lovely Bad Things, “Space Waste”

Lovely Bad Things, "Space Waste"

Who doesn’t love just kicking back and chillin’ with some buds? California’s The Lovely Bad Things do, and we get to watch them do just that in their video for “Space Waste”, their first release since 2013. These garage rockers have been making noise since 2009 and have ridden an intensely DIY wave, supported by their tight-knit network of friends, to their current spot on the Burger Records roster. (Though, “Space Waste” is being self-released as a single, out on Soundcloud, Spotify and iTunes.)

Leaning against vans, crawling through hallways, and driving through western emptiness never felt so fun until they were filtered through The Lovely Bad Things’ wide smiles. The cheery camaraderie continues through the live footage, too, as the band explains: “When we opened for Best Coast back in February at Pappy & Harriet’s, our best friends came along with us and shot this video.”

Just as its video focuses on friendships, “Space Waste” is also about not being alone—“Waste our time together,” belts Lauren Curtius. The bright, breezy guitars and velvety “oohs” are breezy are just as carefree. In their time off from recording new music, The Lovely Bad Things have clearly spent a good chunk of it having a damn good time.
