Tonedeff‘s latest album, Polymer, is a 4 piece EP multi-release. Each EP has a different theme and is distinctly different than the others. Tonedeff has just released an acoustic version music video (the second video from his multi-part multimedia project) of one of his songs from Polymer, and it’s not a track that you’d think would have an acoustic release to it. The song is called, “Filthy XXX”, and as the title suggests, it is so filthy. (NSFW, if you’re wondering. Just a heads up.)
First of all, the caption on youtube under the video says “horrible horrible stuff,” and that caught my eye before I played the video, so that intrigued me. I pressed play and the song began with a soothing guitar line. The screen showed the guitar up close, and slowly zooms out. The video is completely in black and white and simplistic, with just the guitarist, Tonedeff, and two women who are the back-up vocalists. If you were to watch this video without the sound, you might think it was from the 50’s.
But with the sound on? Holy toledo, this song in dirty. (Like how we edited ourselves like it matters?)What makes this video so great is that Tonedeff’s expressions are so animated, like he’s singing about something innocent. The guitarist keeps glancing over at Tonedeff, giving him dirty looks, like he’s thinking that the singer’s mouth needs to be washed with soap. My favorite part of this video was at the very end, when the guitarist just looks ashamed to have been a part of it all.
“I performed this version at the last QN5 Megashow and it was the highlight of my set,” Tonedeff explains. “I figured a send-up of Extreme’s classic “More Than Words” video was the best way to highlight how people will literally sing along to anything catchy – even the rock-bottom longings of a sex addict extolling the lurid draw of ass to mouth. The irony might be lost on some folks.”
