No Age, “Eraser”
This is No Age at the pool drinking Piñas. The sun's shining, the acoustic guitars are strumming, and the lounge chairs are set up next to a generator that's keeping the whole thing running since there's a city-wide blackout and everything's burning down around them. Jump into this tune, though. It's groovy by the poolside.
Let's try another mixed metaphor for this song.
No Age, “Eraser”
This is No Age enjoying a day at the races. They're chilling in the bleachers, downing their ice cold Coors. The temperature's perfect, the acoustic guitars are strumming, and they're enshrouded in total darkness because they are watching the four horseman of the apocalypse race around the track towards an ineffable doom.
This stuff is actually very hopeful, uplifting music. But I just can't shake the feeling that the cloud of low-end noise that follows the song around (and many of their songs around) is inherently bent on drowning me in some sort of shoegaze ennui and/or fear of death. And there's definitely a line in there that sounds like “won't you die”.
The song in question will appear on No Age's upcoming Nouns, out May 6 on Sub Pop.
