Black Pus, the noisy side project by Lightning Bolt drummer Brian Chipendale, premiers the song “1000 Years” off the upcoming album All My Relations. “1000 Years” is fast and weird, a disgusting bass tone driving the song forward while looped effects and howling vocals play overtop. The screeches and buzzes are backed by steady drums, providing for a constant beneath all the chaos. The song is wild, reckless and terrifying all at once, yet still manages to maintain a semblance of structure, keeping itself from corroding entirely into noisy oblivion.
All My Relations is set to be the 8th release by Black Pus, a significant achievement for a band that's intended to be a side project. Chipendale began the project in 2006, putting out a slew of CD-Rs and several records since that time. Following up his 2012 self-released Pus Mortem album, Chipendale moved from his usual 4-track to the studio for the Thrill Jockey release, cleaning up his sound to create what he calls “a hifi affair.”
All My Relations is due out March 19 with Thrill Jockey on CD, LP and digital. Black Pus will take off in May in support of the album, see the dates below.
