Not really sure what's going on at Google. First, they go to these libraries and scan a bunch of books. They don't let other people see their methods. They claim they are in doing it for the public, to “organize the world's information.”
Now it looks like they have an eBooks retail site. Did Google just go to the library, scan all the books for free and start trying to sell them back to me? Doesn't Google know that people only trust Steve Jobs because he has the flashiest toys?
Anyway, everybody can read Google eBooks except for Kindle lovers. More on the Google eBooks adventure at Jacket Copy here and about the independent bookstores affiliate program. They covered it like dust on a jacket.
