In his first public announcement since last June when he confirmed he was working on the studio follow-up to 2005's Life, Ricky Martin has confirmed he will play an impromptu show at the Brooklyn diy venue Market Hotel.
In an attempt to keep the inevitable insanity to a minimum–the turnout is estimated (or feared) to reach well into the thousands–the exact date has yet to be revealed. Rumor has it the show will take place on Saturday, April 10, which remains open on the Market Hotel calendar.
In an ironic twist of fate, Martin actually performed at the Market Hotel with Menudo back in the '80s when it was a Cuban night club. According to Todd P, on a recent trip to NYC, Martin, discovering the venue active again and spurred on by the recent Less Artists More Condos Erykah Badu concert, expressed interest in his own underground show.
But even if you're one of the lucky few to make it in on that night, don't be surprised if it looks a little different than you're used to. “The amount of equipment they (Ricky Martin's people) want to bring in is ridiculous, I don't know how it's all going to fit.” Todd P admitted, adding, “It won't even look like the Market Hotel when he plays, I just hope the floor doesn't cave in.”
Considering he has kept out of the public eye since the birth of his twin sons in 2008, the move is rather odd for Martin. Maybe this is the beginning of a press run leading up to a new album? Either way, we're sure this won't be the last we'll hear from Martin in 2010.
