Resting somewhere between late 70s krautrock and 21st century nostalgia is DINOWALRUS’s new single “Psychic Pharmacy”. The song is from the Brooklyn trio’s upcoming LP Complexion, and it’s a pulsating, emotive take on the pop trope. Early 80s-esque digital drums open up the track, cuing in palm muted disco guitar and new wave vocals. It’s a kaleidoscope vision of a song; the main hook features soaring harmonies provided by guest vocalist and Ava Luna member Felicia Douglass.
The vocal-centric production comes courtesy of Jorge Elbrecht (of Violens and Ariel Pink), who adds layer upon layer of dancey, 80s-laced stratum. With “Psychic Pharmacy” DINOWALRUS offer us a three minute escape into 80s popdom, letting us dance away into the Day-Glo night along with them.
Personal Projects will release Complexion on June 3.
