Whether you've been itching for the surf resurgence or you're happily grinding garagepunk into the ground, there's no lying that this La Luz track is sure to be on your side. It has that smooth, untapped barely-strummed guitar tone that feels as effortless and beatific as a playful swim in a community pool, and with the lulling of alto female harmonies and their spooky rise-and-falls, there is a lightness here that is just barely touched on by melancholy. Though it may be somehwhat au courant for labels to invest in all-girl bands for the sake of marketing on a trend factor, this discovery from Hardly Art is a masterful find—La Luz's upcoming full-length, It's Alive, has all the right stuff already. Quality, cohesion, ease, and style, all of which work together to form a dreamy, wavy, unfussy first output—like riding your bike along the Santa Monica pier.
