The UK fuzz rock trio Male Bonding has announced their sophomore album, Endless Now, out August 30 on Sub Pop. Following their 2010 release, Nothing Hurts, this album was recorded over a two-week period with producer John Angello (Kurt Vile, Thurston Moore, Dinosaur Jr) behind the altar in a converted 19th century church in Woodstock, NY called Dreamland, where one of the studio dogs was named Artemis. Sounds like a very surreal and divine experience, and the band seems to have benefitted a great deal from it — bassist Kevin Hendrick says the the band “exploited every minute of that luxury” and that the band was working “very quickly, all the time.”
Although Endless Now is only 36 minutes long, it boasts a variety of new timbres, including piano, cello, and Mellotron and bountiful vocal harmonies, with female ones supplied by Frankie Rose of Crystal Stilts/Dum Dum Girls/Vivan Girls. You can check out the new track “Bones” below – it's an echoey, breathless pop punk number, sort of what you would expect a joyous lo-fi choir of angels to sound like.
