San Francisco’s rock/pop four-piece 1955 – comprised of Sasha Papadin (vocals, guitar, keys), Kieran Maloney (drums, backing vocals), Dane Gaffney (bass), and Cameron Iturri (lead guitar) – came to be in a slightly off-key way. Papadin built a studio of sorts in his furniture repair workshop in 2012, filling it with instruments of all kinds. Friends filtered in and out, playing instruments and partaking in the frivolity of it all. But three people were of note when playing, and so 1955 was born. The rest? Well – to take the cheesy way out – it’s history in the making. We’ve got the debut of their latest, “Morning Song”.
The track starts out with a reminiscent thought, the lyrics “so many days I was chasing the chase” revealing an introspective vibe. Upbeat, pop-light instrumentals guide Papadin’s words as he sings about being ready for a new day. Turn it on, consider the things you’d like to change in your life, and let the song guide you.
Yes, it’s that kind of song.
