Though I am in no way the resident hiphop expert at Impose (that spot is reserved for one Busy “Feels” Gillespie), I have been anointed the official Allen Iverson expert. Thus, when Busy drew my attention to Action Bronson's latest, a late-night drop called “Practice”, I knew what we were about to be talkin' bout. Starting with the legendary Iverson press conference material, Bronson asks us to stop talking bout practice and think of him as a franchise player. The voiceover speaks volumes to assert Bronson's position in the game, and only works to elevate his production pairing with Party Supplies, a soul-inflected backtrack that feels familiar and retro. It's a cut that would no doubt please #3, whose retirement comes this week. Perhaps Bronson is aiming to replace the legend . . . at least on the rap court.
Blue Chips 2 is Bronson's latest and will drop on November 1.
