Caleb Stone & Pyramid Vritra, SPLIT EP

Post Author:

Producer Caleb Stone has racked up an indelible collection of collaborative EPs that include the three-part Sex Quest series with Speak and Kilo Kish’s Across EP. Add the SPLIT EP with Super 3 producer and rapper Pyramid Vritra to that resume.

Although Stone relocated to Detroit from his long tenure in Los Angeles, the connection to Pyramid Vritra comes from overlapping social circles that built around recording sessions with the likes of Matt Martians and Syd Tha Kid of The Internet at Syd’s former home recording studio. It led to Stone and Vritra recording a glitchy, psychedelic instrumental album called Smuggin’ alongside Vritra’s NRK (Nobody Really Knows) crew roughly four years ago.

Pyramid V has been reclusive released* an LP and four EPs on Bandcamp since the Palace EP piggybacked his Stones Throw debut Indra. The SPLIT EP with Stone affords Pyramid V the hermetic head space through Houston bpm levels that give him the bayou blues. The EP is Pyramid V reconnecting with his Southern upbringing of alligator shoes, alligator on the plate with tripe, and the sticky heat.

*Correction made at 3:55p.m. to reflect that Pyramid Vritra has actually been prolific since the release of his debut.
