The Blank Tapes, “Back and Forth”

Post Author:

The Blank Tapes are turning their sun folk sound into some of this summer's best indie guitar pop, capturing the sound of golden West Coast pop like fire and lightening trapped in a jar. Frontman Matt Adams has expanded the analogue-worshipping band with the talented likes of Pearl Charles, DA Humphrey and Will Halsey, who have been building on a repertoire that includes recent releases such as Home Away From Home (White Noise), Invisible Colors (Curly Cassettes) and Sun's Too Bright (Burger Records). Today we invite you to listen to a premiere from their new 7-inch, I'm Back, with the power-pysch-pop single, “Back & Forth.”

“I could tell a different story but leave out the parts that are too boring,” Matt sings, showing the songwriter's hand in between the “ahhh ahhh” back up choruses that reinforce the power guitar-shredding action. Adams even gives a nod to his stint at Mad Magazine and his work on the band's album covers with another line like “I could see it in some drawing, doodling until I start yawning” shedding more light and thought on the creative process through a passion for the visuals. Developing a sound that rings somewhere between a driftwood bonfire evening spent at Ocean Beach or an afternoon spent idling with best friends in Dolores Park; Matt and the gang have been hard at work on the upcoming album Vacation, set for release sometime in 2013, but you can get in on the preliminary party with their I'm Back 7″ available via San Francisco's 20-Sided Records now.

Catch The Blank Tapes at the following upcoming dates, including a release show for the I'm Back 7″ on July 20 at Amnesia, SF.
