With Professor Calculus in a possible hiatus state, Caleb Stone carries on under his government name armed with Protools and the pro tools of LA beatmakers. Last year he dropped the Sleepy Bitches mixtape, proving he's a skilled beat technician. He's following the tape with PUURREESSHHEERRMM, resurrecting the '90s LA slang for a joint dipped in embalming fluid. If further references are needed look to Tupac and The Outlawz records for its effects.
For “FIGLI”, Caleb teamed up with Liphemra, an artist he began collaborating with while working on Sleepy Bitches and remixing one of her records. Amorphous and glitchy, “FIGLI” refuses to settle with itself. Liphemra's pristine vocals of “getting higher than the whole world” are likened to smoking weed on a mountain top and feeling at peace, but Stone didn't call name his record after sherm for nothing. He muddles Liphemra's airy release into a warped collapse that dulls her into a numbed state of murky backspins. The euphoria is swapped out for the fears of a bad trip and suddenly coming down from the higher grounds feels much more appealing, but it's all too late to take back.
The PUURREESSHHEERRMM tape features contributions from Alexander Spit, Cashius Green, Speak, Pyramid Vritra, and Mike G, among others.
