Sacramento DIY punks sign to Hopeless, unleash short & savage new single

Sacramento’s Destroy Boys are one of the best rising punk bands in the game, having emerged from the DIY circuit with a rabid following off the strength of their albums Sorry, Mom and Make Room. The group also just signed to Hopeless Records, joining other dynamic acts in the scene including Sincere Engineer and Tigers Jaw. Now their sharing their first single for the label, the short and savage “Muzzle,” along with its biting animated lyric video.

Clocking in at around a minute long, “Muzzle” is an angry blast of propulsive guitars and pummeling drums, culminating in a defiantly anthemic chorus: “I am not your fucking mannequin/ Clothes pin call up your weekend sin/ I am not your Polly Pocket girl/ Chucking me in your donate bin.” It’s full of pent-up frustration, touching on themes of artifice and toxic masculinity.

“The song tackles feelings of being seen as disposable and subhuman, feeling out of control and taking your power back. It’s an anthem for the unseen, written by [guitarist Violet] Mayugba, and inspired by a toxic relationship where she was mistreated by a man she was in a relationship with,” the band shared in a press release.

The track also arrives with an edgy, roughly-sketched animated video that heightens all those snowballing emotions. You can watch it below, and check back for more potentially new Destroy Boys material in the coming months.
