Diet Cig, “Scene Sick”

Liz Pelly

There is specific breed of epic boredom that comes with being stuck in circles of small talk at shows. A song dissecting that pointed monotony might seem destined to be similarly dull, but the very new New Paltz band Diet Cig somehow manage to channel it with an endearing sense of sweet-sung melodrama. “I’m sick of talking about your scene, I’d rather talk about something more exciting,” sings Alex Luciano on “Scene Sick”. “I don’t care, I don’t care, I don’t care,” she adds as proudly as a wide-eyed angel emoji. It’s the first single from their upcoming EP Over Easy, out next month on Father/Daughter. Stream it below.
