Dirty Beaches is a “Lone Runner”

Dirty Beaches Lone Runner

Man, I still got my old Suicide Squeeze 7-inches. Remember when they did one of four limited edition Les Savy Fav cuts? That's ok, you don't need to know your music history, because the best baseball-referencing label this side of the Mendoza Line has been back at it, steadily releasing quality wax since about the time HEALTH could press 2000 of them and call it “limited edition”. Now up to bat is Impose-favorite, Elvis-jocking Alex Zhang Hungtai, aka Dirty Beaches, with “Lone Runner”.

The new single picks up where Hungtai left off with Badlands; his adoration of Sun Records allowing him to drift into a Johnny Cash story-telling mode: “I can see him dancin’/Going down the aisle/Lone Runner…Lone Runner.” The flip side features the cut “Stye Eye”, which was previously released on a limited edition cassette. You could almost say this new Dirty Beaches 7-inch is howling and grimy, but it would behoove me not to use such cliched adjectives.

Dirty Beaches kicks off a tour with Frankie Rose & the Outs in a few weeks. You can see the tour dates here, and stream “Lone Runner” below.
