Glenn Jackson's “House, Weed, and Much Much More Mix”

Blake Gillespie

Glenn Jackson

I've never met Glenn Jackson of James & Evander, but in reading his intentions with the mix he curated for the Friday Night series, a kindred soul was introduced. Prior to receiving the quote below, I gave his “House, Weed, and Much Much More” mix an afternoon test run. His selections got me off the couch and enthusiastic about tiddying up my place. The usual desire to invent a reason to crack a beer was replaced with a gusto for lessening the squalor. I turned up the monitors so it was properly audible throughout the apartment and took to washing dishes and hampering dirty clothes. Turns out, that's Glenn's vision:

I listen to a lot of music day in and day out partially because of the career I pursue (music journalist, those still exist, right?I and also because I really don't know what else to do with my free time. Still, I don't very often find myself listening to mixes, I just always kind of forget they are out there. When I do get a chance to listen to a mix or podcast it's usually when I'm high and doing some sort of activity: washing the dishes, cleaning my house, making breakfast, or getting ready to go to out for the night—basically, the simpler tasks. With this mix, I wanted to make something that would enhance those types of moments and maybe make them a little more fun, while hopefully not getting in the way. The mix doesn't build to some epic crescendo or pile tension to the point of needing release; it's just a mix to help you pass the time pleasantly and maybe get you to nod your head or tap your foot while going about your business. And just for shits, I tacked on a little “audio easter egg” of sorts for anyone who is actually familiar with my track “Save,” cause if you make it all the way to the end, you deserve a bit of a present.
