Rising hip hop and hyperpop artist blurs stylistic lines with punk energy on new single
Explosive, chaotic and distorted are only three words to describe Godwil Oke AKA Godly the Ruler’s crowd moving sound. His charismatic energy comes from his upbringing and constantly being in search for identity and representation whilst being a first generation Nigerian immigrant. Throughout his previous releases you can probably expect to hear sounds similar to those of Slowthai, Jean Dawson or Glaive – an explosive punk energy that crosses the lines of hip/hop and rap.
His new single “Midwest” replicates his explosive and charismatic energy as an artist, with an aggressive, grungy and distorted bass throughout.
“The constant floor-shaking bass, and dreamy guitar, paired with explosive drums and a similarly explosive vocal performance offer a slap in the face that takes you from your normal reality into a psychedelic sonic trip,” Godly shared.
