Seriously, have you ever seen anything as cute as this? It makes me want to puke.
Maybe not as much as the trailers for the new Where the Wild Things Are flick, but this cute war got me thinking. Remember the old animated version of Wild Things? Well, that reminded me of what many consider the best animated film of all time, and fuck yeah, it involves a hedgehog!
Hedgehog in the Fog is a 1975 Soviet Russian animated film directed by Yuriy Norshteyn based on the script written by Sergei Grigoryevich Kozlov. Often considered an animated marvel, the fog effects were created by putting a very thin piece of paper on top of the scene and slowly lifting it up toward the camera frame-by-frame until everything behind it became blurry and white.
The film is so celebrated in the old USSR that a stamp was dedicated to the film in 1988 and they even erected a hedgehog statue.
Then this statue got me thinking about other Russian staples, like Gorky fucking Park! Which is not only the name of a bad ass Soviet Russian band known for their āhit,ā āBang,ā but it was also name-dropped in the sweet Scorpions song āWind of Change.ā And that, my friends, is how cute baby hedgehogs make me think of inspirational 80s hair metal.
