Lamar is a fisherman, of sorts, and we're all on his steady reel. The intentions of Lamar on O.D. are guarded by massive anthems like “P&P 1.5” and “Michael Jordan”, which can distract us from the soul bared on songs like “Cut You Off” and “Opposites Attract”. But, those songs are monumental in reeling in the masses that live for ignorant shit, in order to gain an audience to eventually hear your real shit. – Jay-Z employs this tactic, as did Tupac Shakur.
While “P&P 1.5” celebrates the numbing feeling, “Sex With Society” keeps our attention through cognative dissonance as we are attracted to the chorus of “life's a bitch / I'mma keep her pussy wet” and a glitched stuttering of the word bitch, but buried in Kendrick's hypnotic flow is a mission statement of how he intends to conduct himself and a hope that those listening will follow suit. You might not hear it at first, possibly distracted by THC's thumping bass maneuvers, but Kendrick is issuing a challenge. He's figured out just how he intends to fuck with society. It's on us now.
