Alex Ruder is one of the most renowned DJs at one of the nation's most renowned radio stations, Seattle's KEXP, but you won't hear him spinning during the drivetime commute. Instead, Ruder operates overnight, filling the airwaves with expansive sounds to soundtrack your contemplative, early AM train rides, headphone sessions, or other serene dealings under the cover of darkness. Ruder recently expanded his influence from the DJ booth to his own record label, Hush Hush, which specializes in his particular brand of nuanced electronic introspection.
On June 23, Hush Hush will release Coral Dreams, the debut album from Kimekai, also known as Croatian producer and multi-instrumentalist Marko Vuković. The album is a lush, intricately textured exploration of an incredibly dynamic sonic pallette where synths, guitars, percussion, and a bevy of electronics combine with Vuković's own ethereal vocals to guide listeners through the aqueous, the celestial, and everything in between. As is the case with Ruder's DJ sets, Coral Dreams serves as the perfect accompaniment for those quiet, instersticial moments of the night when the mind is a blank canvas, ready to be taken on a journey.
Today we're proud to bring you the premiere of “Live Lead”, one of the album's standout tracks. Plug in some headphones and stream it below.
Cassette and digital editions of Coral Dreams are currently available for pre-order via Bandcamp.
