Ladada, pronounced “luh-DAH-duh,” is the solo project of Virginia Beach’s Josiah Schlater, who, after working with a handful of bands prior, is now settling into a Motown-laced garage rock sound that practices a similar melodic magic to Elliott Smith’s poppier work. “Comets” comes off his forthcoming self-titled EP. Of the project, he says, “the original idea was to record the randomest of everyday sounds and incorporate them… Eggs sizzling, water dripping, clothes spinning, etc.” It’s worth a close listen to try to distinguish between his sound experiments and his capable use of the more conventional instruments.
