Lone Kodiak, “Ribs” (Lorde Cover)

Lone Kodiak used to operate under a different moniker. A decade ago, they were emberghost and they were gaining immense success – filling huge venues and flying to Sony music, when one of the members, Sarah Jennings, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and everything changed. Jennings passed away 3 years later and the band became Lone Kodiak. Continuing down the music path, their latest offering is a cover of Lorde’s “Ribs.”

This track came about when one of the band members, Andrew, left Lorde’s Pure Heroine album playing while cooking. The beautiful and haunting intro stopped him in his tracks, and Andrew loved the way the song was “dark and sultry but still uplifting, optimistic and catchy,” so he suggested it as a cover. After recording and re-recording and then reverting to the original, this beautiful masterpiece is the end result.
