While the backwards-leaning rock nostalgia shows no signs of slowing down, we haven’t seen much in the way of harmonic guitar solos. Enter Loose Tooth‘s “Skinny Chewy”, the latest single from the Philadelphia band’s forthcoming debut LP, Easy Easy East. It takes until the final few bars of “Skinny Chewy”, but we’re serenaded off with a solo that brings to mind early Failure or Quicksand, especially given the slower, straight-forward tempo and power-chord driven aura of “Skinny” when compared to the album’s first single, “Pickwick Average“. As quickly as a Pavement or Weezer reference can get thrown out, a Ken Andrews or Walter Schreifels nod seems somewhat refreshing.
Loose Tooth’s Easy Easy East is due out April 21 via Fleeting Youth Records. You can stream “Skinny Chewy” below.
