Main Attrakionz are growing up before our eyes into bossalinis of the west at a light speed pace with eight mixtapes within the year. It begs the question, what is it about the Bay Area that breeds prolificity? From John Dwyer and Tim Cohen in rock to Too Short, E-40 and now Lil' B in rap, the Bay is chock full of homebodies prone to writing sprees. I'm starting to think I should move there and maybe my first novel will write itself.
Main Attrakionz linked up with MishkaNYC for 808s & Dark Grapes II, a reference to a greatest hits tape the duo released in '09. The second installment is spanking new with production from unsung Bay producers that embody the lo-fi wave running previously associated with the group. Marlee B, NoaBoa, AHYVE, FriendZone and Keyboard Kid contribute to the sonic texture, but it's Clams Casino's ODB-sampling “Take 1” that's stirring up the blogs. I'm partial to the baby grand piano tracking on “Chuch” by Friendzone.
