London-based singer-songwriter shares gorgeous new ballad
Merrick Winter has released his latest single “Veneer,” which explores a humble sound taken from his upbringing. Recorded at Fold Studios in East London and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Alex Gordon, the single demonstrates Merrick’s talent in its finest form. Throughout, his vocals all work together with dusted strings and the uplifting sound of acoustic guitar strums.
“This was one of those songs that just kind of poured out, both in the writing, and in the studio,” he shared. “We wrote out some ground rules for this EP in a pub as I remember, one of which was to be hyper-intentional with each recorded element; to not take shortcuts in the box – 90 percent of what you hear is from analogue sources – a lot of space-echo feedback and tape printing.”
