Mexico City psych-shoegaze marauders announce new album, share whirring new single
Mexico City band Mint Field specializes in conjuring a hypnotic and blistering clash of psych rock and noise. We were HUGE fans of their spellbinding 2018 debut LP Pasar de las Luces, an album that managed to blend shoegaze, post-rock, lo-fi punk and experimental electronic textures with a slithery chameleonic touch. It’s the perfect acid-washed music for the languid, dying days of COVID summer.
Today the Estrella del Sol-fronted group continues in that vein, unleashing their crunching, shimmering new track “Contengencia” – the latest tase of their forthcoming album Sentimiento Mundial. Driven by propulsive reverb-drenched guitar riffs and skittering percussion, the track explores and revels in its staticky lo-fi layers as del Sol’s voice floats ominously. It’s a simultaneously dreamy and nervy tapestry of sounds that should appeal to fans of Stereolab, Yo La Tengo and Oh Sees.
Sentimiento Mundial arrives on 9/25 via Felte. You can pre-order it HERE and get lost in “Contengencia” below.
