Simply by being MJ MJ Records, which stands for Michael Jordan twice aka an unstoppable force in NBA Street Vol.2, we are obligated as a magazine that remembers all of the 90s to listen to their releases. Orginally we looked to them mostly for obscure garage from the great white north of Minneapolis, but their taste in hip hop, house, and funk is just as strong in their string of recent releases.
For Vol.3 of their Serious Sauce series, MJ MJ turned the reigns over to Minneapolis producers Psymun and Damacha to curate a compilation of beats and collaborations with a handful of artists we're pleased to have on the radar. In the sampler, we meet a jazzy lounge bird named K. Raydio who melts our hearts with her sensuous voice, while Unfuh Qwittable is a loud mouth who lives up to his name. Stay tuned with more to come from an official release that includes, Lipset, Rich Garvey, Prizm, 80H2O, and Bohemian Wolff.
Andy Todryk of MJ MJ had this to say regarding the release:
I went to high school with these guys. I was in a punk band with John (Damacha) and I met Simon when he started making noise music as HLLO SMN. They were a couple years younger than me. I hadn't heard from either of them in 5 or 6 years since I graduated. One day Simon hit me up telling me he was making hip hop beats now. Needless to say I was surprised, and even more so when I listened to them. Apparently they both moved to Minneapolis around the same time that I did. Never in a million years would I have guessed I would be putting out their record, and especially not one that sounded like this.
Pre-order the Psymun & Damacha full-length cassette now, before it drops on April 20.
