New Orleans-based musician and songwriter Adam Campagna has been hard at work on the debut album for his musical project Mr. Universe – titled Everything’s Good/It’s Not Working – for the better part of two years. His attention to detail played its part over that time in multiple studios across two cities, and it’s finally coming to fruition on November 11th. We’ve got the exclusive premiere of his track “Goddamn” leading up to the album release date.
“Nostalgia can hit hard sometimes out of nowhere,” explained Adam. “A familiar place, song, or drink can bring back memories — for better or worse. ‘Goddamn’ is my story of a sudden recollection of a relationship in New Orleans that ended, and of how it occasionally makes me feel — how all memories can make me feel.”
The song boasts an interesting instrumental composition, and though it is comprised of intense, emotional lyrics, it still feels like a really good song to play in the background of a small get together with friends. Can’t you just imagine yourself singing along to it, sitting in a circle and reminiscing together? The guitar sets itself apart from the masses, bringing in a very warm, gorgeous sound.
This is also the perfect song to play post-breakup. It’s just the perfect song. So just play it. On repeat.
Everything’s Good/It’s Not Working is set to release November 11th via Adam’s own Moderate Fidelity Records. Mr. Universe’s album release show is at Sidney’s Saloon on November 11th. Get your tickets now.
