French producer Nebbra has made his name crafting remixes for acts such as Phantogram and Selena Gomez, but now he’s stepping out on his own. He’s currently prepping his You debut EP, and offered us a taste of it with the title track. On “You,” Nebbra collaborated with New York singer Mike Sabath, who delivers sultry vocals about the object of his affection.
This isn’t just a case of a producer needing a vocalist for the sake of having a voice on the record; Sabath and Nebbra work in lockstep here. Sabath matches the composition’s tension with his vocals, crooning calmly at the outset then keeping up the pace as the track dives headfirst into Trap vibes. Nebbra’s rubbery lead synth and stuttering composition provides room for the sweet “yous” of Sabath to seep through the track unimpeded, acting as a centerpiece instrument.
