In a deathmatch between Milwaukee's Piles and Boston's Pile, it's difficult to glean who would win. It's long been acknowledged that I am the world's biggest Pile fan, but when Piles came on my radar, one eyebrow began to raise slowly. The two bands, luckily, are pointedly different. Piles has a deep, dark guitar-heavy edge to them that, though it's steaming with sludge, actually props up several easy-to-digest pop melodies. Guitar lines that move with quick ease and early 90s melodic “oos” bring “Garbage Hell” to its winning end, before you even knew it had begun.
