Pinkshinyultrablast, “Ravestar Supreme” (RxGibbs Remix)

A good remix doesn’t alter a song’s original sound to meet a broader audience, but rather, reimagines a song to broaden an already content audience’s mind. RxGibb’s remix of Russian shoegaze band Pinkshinyultrablast’s so-appropriately-titled-for-a-remix single “Ravestar Supreme” is an expressively wondrous dance conceptualization that maintains the soul of the already uplifting song. The effectual spaciness is still there, but with more of an emphasis on the lush synth tones and the airiness of the vocals, though no words are actually sung. Include a fixed beat, bass repetitions and added electronics, and even take a guitar respite around the 3:30 mark, and you have a pretty excellent remix doing justice to its original. The environment created here is one perhaps even more soothing and blissful than the original version, as there is no focus to place on anything in particular, but it instills awe and insightfulness. It’s complex and simplistic all at once, and danceable at that.

The single is available March 30 on Club AC30. Pinkshinyultrablast’s debut LP Everything Else Matters is currently out on AC30 in the UK and Shelflife in the States.
