Pleasure Leftists have been mired in doom and gloom since the post-punkers formed in 2010. After five years of singles and EPs, the Clevelanders are gearing up to release their first proper full length, The Woods of Heaven, later this month. Even though the band is overwhelmingly dark, their new single, “Protection”, adds enough tempo for even the most sullen punters to tap their feet and bob their heads. Its pace isn’t a surprise given some of Pleasure Leftists’ members’ hardcore pasts (9 Shocks Terror, Homostupids), and Haley Morris’ soaring howls ramp up its engulfing passion. Foreboding and bleak, yet constantly moving around quick, shiny guitars, “Protection” is a picture of grim intensity.
