L.A. musician drops haunting & contemplative new single

Artist and songwriter Issac Watters dedicates his music to his city Los Angeles. Watters is haunting and archival in the way he approaches songwriting, retracing memory with deep contemplation of the human experience. Sonically, Watters’ music has a lingering effect. On his newest single “Coconut in the Street,” Watters leads listeners through the L.A. cityscape, detailing the disparity of people he witnesses on a walk home – a group of friends on a night out, a homeless man sleeping on the street, street vendors, addicts living on the edge of the freeway, a construction worker all existing together under the persistent heat of a Southern California night – the only thing shielding them from one another is wealth and status.

“These are all scenes I was thinking about while writing “Coconut In The Street,” said Watters. “But really it’s just a song about being out in Los Angeles at night. Roaming the streets with your friends, or trying to find someone to be your friend. All these images are things that happen in L.A. I think it’s something about the compression of wealth and poverty, facelessness and celebrity. It drives people to the extremes.” “Coconut in the Street” is the second release off Watters’ forthcoming EP EXTENDED PLAY 002 out August 30th via hi-res records. You can give it a spin below. He will also be performing at L.A. staple Gold Diggers on July 28.
