Chicago is a city with a storied history when it comes to noise-rock, and so it’s no small feat that Running are among the current cream of the crop in the city. With a new LP, Wake Up Applauding, imminent on John Dwyer (of Thee Oh Sees)’s Castle Face Records, they’re premiering the first track from that record with us here today. “Reclaimed Would” is big and nasty, blown-out and riff-hefty, only psychedelic like a bad comedown, with pitch and yaw and reel meant to draw out delightful nausea in the listener.
The band’s dry, sharp sense of humor is immediately their statement on the song, which is thus: “With reclaimed material being so popular, it is becoming more difficult to source. With such a high demand, some sellers try to pass newer would off as antique. It is also common for the source to be misidentified because it is difficult to tell the difference in older material unless it is cut open and examined, leaving the material less desirable. Professionals in the field and with established reclaimed would enterprises do not have difficulty identifying the source.”
Wake Up Applauding will be available on January 4, 2016.
