Santa Cruz hardcore rising stars unleash catchy banger off forthcoming EP

Santa Cruz’s Scowl have unquestionably been one of the best and most popular rising acts in the hardcore sphere – following their excellent debut LP How Flowers Grow, several raucous tours and a star-making set at last year’s Sound and Fury Festival. And 2023 looks to be an even bigger year for them! They’ve got a monster of a tour coming up with Show Me The Body, Jesus Piece, Zulu, and TrippJones, and high-profile slots at Coachella and Las Vegas nü-metal fest Sick New World on the horizon.

On top of that, today Scowl has released a brand new single and video called “Opening Night.” This one’s a catchy banger on which frontwoman Kat Moss utilizes her non-screaming singing voice, which is quite beautiful and evocative of a more melodic punk-leaning vibe. Of course, during the track’s final climax, she unleashes her signature screams in blistering fashion over shreddy, crunchy riffage and swirling percussion. The video – directed with fiery aplomb by Malachi Greene – is an imaginative performance clip featuring wacky ski mask costumes and choreographed head bobs. Moss and the rest of the band don elegant formal attire, proving again that you can both rock the fuck out and look glamorous while doing it.

It’s also the first taste of Scowl’s newly-announced EP Psychic Dance Routine, which drops on April 7 via Flatspot Records. The whole thing was produced by Will Yip! In conclusion, get on board before they blow up. You can pre-order the EP HERE and check out the video for “Opening Night” below.
