RVNG Intl's wonderful FRKWYS series continues, this time morphing the monotone color of the series' record covers into a shimmering rastafarian rainbow with this new collaboration between the Congos of St. Catherine, Jamaica, Los Angeles doobie-sleeze funk king Sun Araw and his synthesizer sympathizer and frequent collaborator M. Geddes Gengras. The results: the record ICON GIVE THANK and the film ICON EYE.
Gengras and Araw laid down some themes in LA before booking it for Jamaica, where they met up with the Congos and allowed their studio time to be filmed by Tony Lowe, a film maker and musician who has played with Skeletons and Janka Nabay, and Sam Fleishner, a film maker who has made music videos and narrative films.
The resulting piece of work is the first film in the FRKWYS Series, pas incarnations of which have included Julianna Barwick with Ikue Mori and Blues Control with Laraaji.
