Josh Wambeke has explored psychedelic songs, shoegaze and space rock only to wind up in Denver, where all of these influences make sense. His latest project The Morning Clouds was described to us as shoegaze treatments to Richie Vallens ballads and we could not agree more. The song “Ends” brings to mind the police theory (or maybe it's just something they say in films) that if you put two guys in prison who you suspect committed the crime, the one that sleeps is the guilty one. The narrator in “Ends” is awake, holding his girlfriend who sleeps peacefully, while he lies awake wondering how she does it. It is never quite stated what she's done to make him question her ethics, but whatever it was it inspired thoughts of feeling foolish accompanied by soaring guitar solos.
The Morning Clouds' Wasted Youth Blues EP is out now on Lefse.
