The Weaks, “How to Put An Audience to Sleep in Under Two Minutes”

In the interest of full motherfucking disclosure, Evan Bernard—one half mastermind guitar player and songwriter of Philadelphia-based band The Weaks—is a recurring member of my own band. But even if he weren't, it wouldn't mean there wouldn't be a perfectly wide open spot on this website for the brilliant second single from his forthcoming record, The World Is A Terrible Place and I Hate Myself and Want to Die. “How to Put an Audience to Sleep in Under Two Minutes” may bank on The Weaks' proclivity for lengthy titles, but its short burst of revivalist poppunk proves that they're a band who has all their secrets tucked tight in their pockets. Saves The Day-style shout-alongs, and Brand New-inspired bass lines, as well as vocal stylings that are reminiscent of Sunny Day Real Estate and Hey Mercedes, make the track an easy-to-repeat heart-pumper. Stay tuned for the slaughtering guitar solo mid-track that will wake you out of that sad-girl (or sad-boy) slumber.

The World Is A Terrible Place and I Hate Myself and Want to Die releases through Lame-O Records on February 11 and can be preordered here.
