Before TV Ghost were TV Ghost, they were the slightly elongated Television Ghost, and though the earlier nomenclature may seem like an unimportant distinction, there is something in the sound of the original recordings that feels more stretched, much bigger, more over-the-top than the later tracks. The creation history behind “The Amputee”, one of two to appear on a 7″ released through Kind Turkey Records tomorrow, is that the band recorded this earlier material in a moldy basement, then immediately dropped the finish tape into a puddle. The result is a sludgy, doom-laden monster of a track that is dense in all the right ways. It evokes a dungeony sound that is practically startling in its dominance, and by the end of the track, you'll certainly be searching for a ghost-tape player to press on the rewind. Tape or no tape at your disposal, the 7″ will be available for purchase (with a b-side called “The Mold”) through Kind Turkey Records tomorrow.
