The Porlandia band (un)known as Unknown Mortal Orchestra is probably our most Week In Pop'ed band and for damn good reason. In addition to a solid debut offering, UMO are capable remixers, which is proven in its podcast for Modular People. The podcast rolls deep in remixes, 10 to be exact. UMO pitch shift the ever-loving hell out of Brandy, SWV, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Aaliyah, but beneath the vocal fuckery are homages to thorough New York rap productions that are only missing DJ drops from Evil Dee. Who knew Brandy wanted to be down with Boot Camp Clique?
I'm definitely feeling a cosmic connection with Ruban of UMO right now. I planned to blast “First Of The Month” today, as it was a rare alignment of actually receiving a check on the first. I'm down to shake things up with a high-speed 8-bit remix.
