Walsh a.k.a. another Brandon Biondo project

Impose geeked out over the many projects of Brandon Biondo for a good portion of the summer. It's starting to feel like Autumn and Biondo still has us… lingering again on a side project.

He reined us in with Cool Runnings by preying on our perversions. Eventually we gushed over the actual music and then he and Mat Cothran convinced us to despise chillwave a little less. Biondo's latest project is called Walsh. On Day 2 of September the Smoke Weed About It EP dropped on AMDISCS and Bandcamp.

Walsh features “Untitled,” Biondo's collaboration with Cothran, and a few heavier jams that pit bliss pop against hip hop breaks. Opener “Days Of Thunder” could have easily been on the motion picture soundtrack to the Tom Cruise flick with the same name, building the intensity for Cole Trickle's definitive race against his nemesis Russ Wheeler or maybe it's a hip-instrumental update to “Highway To The Dangerzone”. “07 Luxury” features Squadda Bambino over a Dam-Funk-esque synth-line and a retro-hip hop bassline fit for a Melle Mel verse about staying off those white lines. Squadda ain't trying to take it that far back though, he's nostalgic about “going dumb like it's '07 luxury” – which does feel like a lifetime ago.

Walsh dropped a phenomenal 30-minute DJ mix this week called Cool Runnings 2: Lost In New York that is sure to set the weekend off proper. The weather is chilling out and Walsh dug up some Human League and obscure Gary Numan to set the mood.
