Berlin's Tim Exile has years of experience being strange via obsessive electronic production. He's done improvisational gabber. He's built noisescapes around clips of someone (Tim himself?) saying things like “Hey listen! My penis is chiming again.” Now, for his warp debut (Listening Tree, which hit on March 17), he's gone pop.
The first single suggests this won't actually be such a departure. “Family Galaxy” is a bizarre experience. By the middle segment the rhythm has splintered into a vigorous, compound time signature, spacing out its thumping kick with an amen-spatter that seems lifted from an entirely different song every bar.
