WRITER have taken to Brooklyn like a fish to water or a Wesleyan undergrad to graduation. The former San Diegans love Brooklyn life so much, they invited Tape Deck Mountain's Travis Trevisan to live on their couch, so that he could sample the good life of subways, bodegas, police oppression, and cat-size rats.
We imagine that sleepless nights of bro-ing down in a cubby hole apartment led to the “we should start a…” talks, consisting of a bar, a record label, and a record label run out of the back of our bar. Trevisan got the ball rolling by creating the boutique label Nineteen98 and making a 7″ by WRITER his first release.
On “I Make Neon”, WRITER come crashing in with fuzzy feedback to push the meters into a tick-tocking frenzy. WRITER, consisting of the Brothers Ralph, share the vocal duties on the title track, bouncing around refrains as call-n-response above the scuzzy grunge. It's catchy, but not too poppy, and with the right amount of hi-fi fire power behind it, could knock the socks off your grandma.
WRITER's I Make Neon 7″ is out digitally today and on limited clear lacquer 7″ on August 31 via Nineteen98.
