In anticipation of his upcoming Goldfish/Evade 12″ for Ten Thousand Yen, xxxy aka British producer Rupert Taylor, has dropped a full stream of the “Goldfish” A-side.
A dark take on dancefloor, it’s filled with sinister synth lines, echoey accents and pernicious, carefully-measured percussion. Mingling dark, industrial-tinged 808s with an intimidating clap track, it’s a marked turn away from the brighter classic house meets UK garage aesthetic he usually sticks with.
While infectious in its acid-y squelch, there’s still something very distant and metallic about the entire affair, right down to the rat-a-tat interludes and stilted “uhhs” that litter the production. Robot rave at its finest.
