YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN, “One”

Dayna Evans

YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN's upcoming sophomore album, Uzu, begins definitively with the track “One”, and if there was ever an example of how to get your point across right out the gate, this track does that. Using traditional Iroquois chants and standard prog-rock tropes to level it out, “One” isn't just an experiment in rebel politics that combines influences unfamiliarly. It magically and harmoniously uses traditional singing and chanting to elevate what might feel undeveloped and well-worn without it. Given YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN's understanding of the varying worlds within they work, there never feels like a moment of unnecessary gaze on this track. It's succcesfully wide in breadth.
